When you get a puppy, we hear a lot of “When are you going to get them done?”

Fixed. Neutered. Spayed.

It all amounts to the same thing, protecting the dog population from overpopulation and keeping dogs and puppies out of shelters – which is what we all want, ultimately, right?

This post is a collection of other posts, to act like a hub for you and your pup in order to make sure that you’re as well informed as you can. First, there’s universal information that applies to all dogs. Then I’ve got the overview of the breed specific info based on recent data.

I’m passionate about empowering my puppy owners to make the best decisions and be their pup’s best advocates (which is why you really need to sign up for pupdates, if you haven’t already!)

Universal Information For Deciding About Spay & Neuter

Understanding what happens with the before, the after, the during and your options? Is something I want you to consider! Being prepared? Is what you need. This way you are always able to make the very best choices for you and your puppy!

Breed Specific Information

This information is collected from a 2020 study – which is the most recent, most broad and detailed study of it’s kind. It goes through a bunch of health conditions and cancer risks that your puppy may be exposed to at different rates depending on when they are spayed and neutered.

Now, this information comes from a study, which, naturally, has it’s limitations. Please do remember that these are guidelines and only guidelines. Information from your breeder, about your pup’s direct family tree is going to be far more pertinent than this, as will their lifestyle. But if you don’t have that information to hand, then this can be a great guide for you.
