Best Dog Training Audiobooks On Audible

This book is probably the most accessible option for new dog parents - this goes through all the basics of your new puppy - from a sit to potty training. It's super easy to get involved in, it's not too long, it doesn't go too deep on theory, but gives you enough insight into your dog, what they need and what you need to consider whilst raising them.

I love that level of understanding and transferability - I also love that this has been written and read by Steve Mann (head of the IMDT) and gives anecdotal examples.

Pat Miller is a fantastic influence on our industry. 

And this book does not disappoint! 

This book is really interesting to me, because Stanley Coren has done a lot of studying in the world of canine science, and, this book shows it. From sharing some anecdotes to explaining that a german shepherd is more short sighted than a greyhound - which is fascinating. 

The book delves into how the world is seen by your dog, and whilst it's not a how to get your dog to sit sort of book, it is a lot of wonderful learning into your dog's why they are this way which positions you best to understand them and teach them.

It is, however, very factual, and the narrator (Bob Dio), is not the most entertaining. So you may want to ensure you're not drifting off too far from the subject and you can focus a little more on this. There are also some mentions of dominance, but given it's year of publication it's not a surprise. Just gloss over those parts and if you fancy it try and decode those ideas in a different way.

I love this book. Honestly, it's still something I refer to when I'm working with an obscure breed to remind myself what they're going to need or love to do when we're working together. For example, I've been working with an keeshound, and I know they're a watch dog, and I know I've learned a lot about them in the past, but I can't retain it all. This book is enough to trigger all the knowledge I need again. 

But for you? It can give you insight into the world of other dogs, so you can be the most considerate dog parent in your local park, and the very best dog parent you can be. 

It also explains the LEGS methodology, which I love to explain why a dog works the way they work and how to explain canine behaviour. 

This may not be your "basic dog training" book, and aimed a little more at the discerning or advanced dog parent, providing a more broad learning of dogs.

Still it's a fantastic read/listen!

A New York Times Best Seller, this book is again a little more of the holistic approach of dog training, but it will provide a fantastic insight into your dog, their health and wellbeing. Which all impacts training. 

I enjoyed this book (though, I do recommend that you don't take it too literally, there is some heavy marketing or selectively selected science in here to my mind), and it gave a good insight into the world of food and health for our dogs from not using fabric softener, to how diet works within them.

Zak George is a really good trainer made famous by his youtube channel, he follows a "LIMA" training style (and focuses on positive reinforcement, especially lately since the AVSAB statement), and he gives a good insight into behavior, and common problems in dog training. 

He's relatable, and the book is definitely appropriate for the 'average' dog parent, which I love.
