Some dog gear gives me a long list of things to discuss. The SadePomppa is almost annoyingly simple to review because my main conclusion is: it just works.
Shelby wears ours. I love it. It has handled prolonged rain, stays put in wind, gives her good freedom of movement and costs less than some of the technical raincoats I would put in the same conversation.

Waterproofing
The SadePomppa has been excellent in proper rain. I trust it for prolonged wet weather rather than treating it as a coat for the occasional shower.
That is really the job of this coat. It is an unlined rain shell, so I am not asking it to provide winter insulation. I am asking it to keep Shelby dry without getting in her way, and it does that very well.
Fit and Movement
The fit works nicely for Shelby and movement has been excellent. It sits in the same general practical category as our Non-stop Fjord and Ruffwear Sun Shower: weather protection without turning the dog into a padded parcel.
It has also stayed put well in windy conditions.
Durability
I have not had snagging problems with our Sade. That distinction matters because another Pomppa we own — the Kevyt — did snag and needed a quick sewing-machine repair. The Sade itself has been trouble-free.
Harness Compatibility
I use Shelby’s harness underneath and use the leash opening around the neck area on ours. It works, but this is the one area where I prefer the Non-stop Fjord. The Fjord’s harness access suits my setup better.
SadePomppa vs Non-stop Fjord
I love the Fjord, but if you ask me which I prefer overall, I choose the Sade because of the price.
I do not feel as though I am giving up much in practical rain protection or quality to save that money. The Fjord wins on harness compatibility for us; the Sade wins on value.
SadePomppa vs Ruffwear Sun Shower
I would also choose the Sade over the Sun Shower for the hounds. That is not because I dislike the Sun Shower — I love it on Indie — but because the Sade has been such a straightforward combination of quality, protection and price.
Sade vs Kevyt vs Toppa
Pomppa’s coat lineup makes more sense when you think of it as a progression.
Sade: the rain shell. This is the one when the problem is water, not cold.
Kevyt: the lined all-rounder. It gives you rain protection plus a little warmth.
Toppa: the winter coat. It is warmer again and gives you room to layer when conditions demand it.
I like all three, but they solve different problems.
Would I Wear It for an Hour in Pouring Rain?
Yes, I trust the waterproofing. Interestingly, if I were actually choosing a Pomppa for an hour in pouring rain, I would often grab the Kevyt instead because I like having the lining when the weather is that miserable.
That does not make the Sade worse at being a raincoat. It just reflects my preference for lined coats when conditions are cool enough to justify them.
Bottom Line
The SadePomppa is one of those products that earns affection by being uncomplicated. It keeps Shelby dry, fits well, moves well, stays put and has not given me durability problems.
Most importantly, I think the price-to-quality ratio is excellent. If you want a pure waterproof shell, this is one of my favorite options we have tested.
